Aerating

Compaction is a result of compression placed on the soil particles, which causes a breakdown in soil structure resulting in lack of air. This in turn has an adverse effect on the health of the lawn often resulting in weak grass coverage.

Aerating your lawn breaks through a thatch layer, enables the roots to breathe, and improves water and nutrient penetration. It also helps break down the thatch by providing a better habitat for the microorganisms.

After aeration you will be left with plenty of soil cores which will break down over time. However, if they start to annoy you then you can get them up with your mower or rake.
